Five menu cycles sequence the school year between each holiday period: Cycle 1: from the start of the school year to the autumn holidays, Cycle 2: return from autumn to end-of-year holidays, Cycle 3: return from end-of-year holidays to winter holidays, Cycle 4: return from winter to spring holidays, Cycle 5: Back from spring to summer holidays, the Department of Hérault implements since 2008, a policy of High Food Quality (HQA), it favors a quality restoration taking into account health, environmental, economic issues, and pays particular attention to the awareness of middle schoolers and the association of the educational community. The Department of Hérault is engaged in a process of labeling its school catering, by Ecocert. The 5 UPCs and all satellite colleges have obtained the level 2 eco-certification "Label en Cuisine". The Department was also awarded in 2020, the "Victory of Rebel Canteens" awarded by a jury convened under the aegis of the association Un plus Bio, in the category "Territories". The Department of Hérault has already achieved the objectives set by the EGalim law since 2022, i.e. to date 75% of food from sustainable sectors, 43% of which is organic. The community aims to offer mainly organic products, coming from local or labeled sectors. The Department was selected as part of the national call for projects launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, intended to finance actions within the component of the Territorial Food Programme. The approach is also accompanied by an active fight against food waste (reduction of waste by 30%). The Department is also part of the AGRIMER system to promote the placement of dairy and fruit products on the menus of middle school students (only SIQO products, under official quality sign: BIO, AOP, AOC, IGP, Label Rouge) and on the other hand in the INCa call for projects aimed at improving public health and preventing and reducing nutritional risk factors on the health of middle school students.
