Even at low alcohol concentrations, these abilities are impaired, which increases the risk of accidents exponentially as the degree of alcoholisation increases. While previous scientific research and legal regulations focus mainly on drivers of motor vehicles, there are still legal peculiarities for cyclists: absolute unfitness to drive is assumed only from a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 ‰, and there is no independent fine for alcoholised cycling. Against the background of the sharp increase in bicycle and pedelec use and the associated higher risk of accidents, as well as increasing use and accident numbers, the question of an adjustment of the legal framework is becoming increasingly important. The aim is to contribute to increasing road safety and to the implementation of Vision Zero.
