What the buyer is looking for
In view of the dynamically growing global competition in the aerospace industry, it is crucial that Germany and Europe jointly strengthen their innovation, technology and competitiveness. The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia therefore pursues the goal of promoting the future viability of industry through an innovation-, research- and start-up-friendly policy and further expanding NRW as a location for innovation, growth and employment. Aerospace plays a key role as a cross-industry driver for key technologies. North Rhine-Westphalia has a strong industrial and scientific base, especially in materials, mechanical engineering, production engineering, electrical engineering and chemistry, as well as an efficient research landscape. This diversity makes it possible to actively shape the transformation and to integrate new players and technologies - for example from the hydrogen…

… economy, battery technology or software development. The aim is to establish NRW as a leading location and real-world laboratory for climate-neutral aviation as well as innovative space and NewSpace applications. A stronger networking of companies, research and other actors as well as the development of new technology and application fields are central to this. At the same time, the international visibility of skills is to be increased in order to open up new markets and strengthen competitiveness. The industry is also becoming increasingly important in terms of security policy. The integration of civil and military technologies (dual use) opens up potential in areas such as unmanned systems, communication, sensors, cyber security and space travel. NRW can make an important contribution to Europe's security and defence capability. Geopolitical developments and increasing defence spending are increasing the demand for innovative aerospace systems, particularly in the areas of unmanned systems, air defence, reconnaissance and space-based technologies. This creates additional market opportunities for companies and research institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Targeted measures are needed to tap into the associated economic and technology policy potential. These include, in particular, strengthening research and development, accelerating innovation and transfer processes and improving the business environment - for example, in the areas of skilled workers, regulation, financing and internationalisation. Close links to national and European programmes as well as to relevant institutions and networks are also required in order to improve the integration of North Rhine-Westphalian actors into international value creation and procurement structures. The AeroSpace.NRW network, which has been in existence since 2021 (order ends on 31.01.2027), has established itself as the central platform of the North Rhine-Westphalian aerospace industry. AeroSpace.NRW connects companies of all sizes as well as universities, research institutions and other stakeholders from business, science and politics and thus forms a central interface of the innovation system of the aerospace industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. The existing cluster structures include in particular regular networking and specialist events, support for innovation and cooperation projects, national and international trade fair activities as well as measures to make the competences and economic potential of the actors in North Rhine-Westphalia visible. In addition, the network is the central point of contact for knowledge and technology transfer and for initiating new cooperations along the entire value chain of the industry. AeroSpace.NRW already has an established umbrella brand and a clearly structured network organization to connect relevant actors. This is supplemented by an A
