… with the current rules of technology. The police headquarters in Frankfurt am Main is the largest area headquarters of the Hessian police. With the construction of the building and the occupation of the police in 2002, the ventilation technology is in operation 24/7. The police headquarters in Frankfurt am Main has 226 ventilation systems with around 3000 fire dampers. The fire dampers are used to close in the event of a fire and to protect escape and rescue routes from fire and thus enable people to escape safely from the building. The fire dampers are tested every 3 years as part of an audit in accordance with the Ordinance on the Testing of Technical Installations and Facilities in Buildings (T PrüfVO). The inspection included the technical systems as well as the fire protection measures taken for their effectiveness and operational safety. In doing so, the principles for the testing of technical plants and facilities in accordance with the Construction Law Testing Ordinance were observed by experts recognised under construction law. Defects were found in around 750 fire dampers and need to be rectified. These include 140 major deficiencies. An SV test report of the existing flaps is available. Due to technical deficiencies, an immediate refurbishment is necessary to ensure compliance with the fire protection requirements in accordance with the current rules of technology. The ventilation systems also supply the entire police headquarters, in particular the railroads and the operational centres. In order to ensure fire protection in the building, defect-free separation of the fire sections by fire dampers is necessary. In recent years, some fire dampers have always been upgraded, which is far from sufficient, so that a comprehensive refurbishment is necessary. The first step is to determine current and future needs. This is done with the help of the TÜV test report. The second step is to draw up an overall economic concept as part of a planning process.
