What the buyer is looking for
The aim of the research project is to close the gaps in knowledge on road safety, driving difficulties and the need for space for cycling on gradients and gradients. The statements of the current regulations are not suitable to provide planners with a sufficient indication of the safe and attractive design of the management of cycling. The current situation is characterised by the fact that gradients pose an increased risk of accidents for cycling (UDV No 96/98). This applies to all roads with and without separate bicycle transport systems. The risk is different depending on the location. For example, in about 17% of the solo accidents of cyclists with personal injury, the characteristic of the accident site ‘Gefäl-le’ is indicated, viewed extra-urbanly at about 39% (UDV No 98). In the regulations of the FGSV and internationally, larger distances for cycling are therefore recommended for…

… inclines. However, no concrete recommendations are made. However, it is plausible that various aspects are closely related to the speeds of cycling. At the same time, little is known about the relationship between the speed of cycling and its road safety, route parameters, compatibility with foot traffic, sensitivity to unevenness, required stopping visibility, driving stability and the influence of boundary markings. Thus, planners lack the basics for the choice of the required width surcharges or the basics for the basic decision of the management form in the case of gradients and inclines. As part of a research project, possible correlations of longitudinal inclination, length of longitudinal inclination and the resulting velocity are therefore to be investigated. On the basis of the speeds, the impact on the above aspects must be determined. On the basis of the research results, reliable recommendations for the regulatory framework are to be formulated.
