What the buyer is looking for
A magnetically shielded room A magnetically shielded room (passive / DC shielding) for conducting paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic experiments in an ultra-low magnetic field environment will be installed within the Solid Earth Geophysics (SEG-BK102) Laboratory, Department of Geosciences and Geography, University of Helsinki, located in the Physicum building. The shielded room will contain a horizontal 2G cryogenic magnetometer (SRM) with its associated electronics, one large-volume thermal demagnetizer (oven), a Molspin magnetometer, a non-magnetic working desk, and necessary shelving for SRM electronics and storage. The shielded space therefore requires a relatively large internal area (3.8 x 3.0 m = 11.4 m²) with adequate ventilation. The effective laboratory space available is approximately 23.7 m² (5.4 × 4.4 m). The laboratory has a structural floor-to-ceiling height of approximately…

… 3.75 m. However, overhead ducting limits the maximum permissible installation height of the shielded room to approximately 3.0 m. Therefore, the walls, floor, and ceiling of the shielded room must be designed to be as thin as technically feasible while still achieving the required shielding performance. Because several instruments will be installed inside the room, the magnetometers cannot be positioned at the geometric center of the shielded volume, and thus the shielding performance must remain effective throughout the usable interior space, including near the perimeter, with a low spatial magnetic field gradient across the working area.,

Clement What the numbers say about this buyer
- In this sector the buyer awards roughly every 2 months (68 awards, most recently October 2026) — the next award is due around December 2026 by that rhythm. The last award went to SRS Technology (CHE-499.968.562).n = 68
- 31% of this buyer's awards went to companies that had already won here before (91 awards since 2017, spread over 39 companies). 69% went to new names.n = 91 awards since 2017
- 21% of awards went to companies from abroad (91 awards with a known winner country). Sector average: 8%.n = 91
- The award came in at a median 101% of the estimated value (5 awards with both estimate and value) — pricing at the estimate is usually about right here. Sector: 89%.n = 5
- The median procedure drew just one bid (50 procedures with a bid count); 58% ended with a single bidder. Sector: median 1 bid.n = 50

Tactics
When this buyer has awarded in this sector, there was usually a single bid in the end. A solid bid has a real chance here. (Based on 34 completed awards — not a statement about this procedure.)
This procedure allows 15 days between publication and deadline — typical in this country is 32 (median of 1,471 procedures). Much tighter than usual: the first week counts.
Foreign bidders
In Finland · Laboratory & optical equipment, 98 contracts went to foreign companies over the last 3 years (of 1,250 recorded awards) — mostly from Germany, Poland, France.
