… evaluation of available information on distribution, stock status, international trade, use and existing protective measures. For this purpose, scientific literature, trade and biodiversity databases as well as other relevant sources of information must be evaluated and supplemented by the consultation of relevant experts. Based on the lessons learnt, an assessment shall be made of whether individual species meet the criteria for inclusion in CITES Appendices in accordance with Resolution Conf. 9.24 (Rev. CoP17). If the results suggest a listing, a corresponding listing request should optionally be prepared and technically coordinated through a stakeholder consultation process, in particular with the involvement of the dissemination states. The project thus makes an important contribution to the fulfilment of Germany's international obligations and to the scientifically sound further development of global species protection within the framework of CITES.
