What the buyer is looking for
FE 02.0511/2026/IRB "Constructive noise protection in sensitive areas" Noise pollution from road traffic is one of the most significant environmental impacts in Germany. Particularly in densely built-up areas, noise hotspots are created that, due to their topographical location, limited space, problematic ground conditions, existing infrastructure or monument protection, could only be effectively protected by very high noise barriers (over 10 m) or complete enclosures - solutions that are often not feasible there. The aim of the project is to develop variable noise protection structures that can be adapted to different emission zones for sites where common structures (noise barriers, partial covers, enclosures) are not possible. The designs must meet the technical requirements of ZTV ING (stability, durability, road safety) and achieve an emission level reduction of at least 3 dB(A),…

… aiming for 5 dB(A) or more - without having to meet the requirements for airborne sound insulation in full. It is important that the structures are not classified as tunnels within the meaning of the RABT/EABT, as this would entail extensive safety requirements (including lighting, ventilation and escape routes). A phased approach is envisaged: systematic literature research on lightweight constructions, static construction and modelling of stability (including bionic approaches, metamaterials), further development of selected concepts for operational noise protection structures, verification of effectiveness in at least one model area by means of FEM/BEM simulation as well as final evaluation including profitability analysis and recommendations for action.
