What the buyer is looking for

Regional traffic computer centres (rVRZ) are increasingly confronted with heterogeneous, dynamic data streams that go far beyond classical detector data. In addition to established infrastructure-based acquisition systems such as induction loops, radar detectors and video acquisition, digital data streams from vehicle fleets, mobility services and cooperative systems (C-ITS) are increasingly available. This development promises a significantly higher density of information, spatial coverage and timeliness, but poses new challenges for operational decision-making. Existing basic works and guidelines do not take sufficient account of today's diversity of dynamic, user-generated data sources. The research project develops a practical framework with which rVRZ can systematically test, evaluate and integrate heterogeneous data sources into their operational and strategic decision-making…

… processes. The focus is on the comparable assessment of the data quality of a wide variety of sources - from classic sensors to floating car data to C-ITS services and OEM data. The processing includes requirements analysis by means of workshops with rVRZ operators, analysis of infrastructure-side and vehicle-generated data, development of a quality assurance concept with standardized metrics and evaluation in a test area. The results enable regional VRZ to use different data sources in the operational business in the short term, create transparency for investment decisions in the medium term and strengthen rVRZ's position as an integrative platform in the digitized transport system in the long term.
