What the buyer is looking for
Last summer showed us that we are still insufficiently prepared for the extreme heat, which we expect to increase due to the changing climate. One of the measures that we can take and that only a few have worked with so far is cooling places. A place of coolness should be a place where people can temporarily go to recover from the heat, a concept that has been around for much longer in our southern neighboring countries. Although some cities in Flanders have already started this on their own initiative, there is no scientifically based policy framework that local authorities can use to get started. The aim of this research assignment is therefore to formulate a policy framework for identifying possible cooling spots, determining quality requirements and answering some organisational issues.
