What the buyer is looking for

Type of service Young tree care on street trees Scope of service Under the entire annual replanting contract of the City of Essen, the young trees receive two cuts during the three-year development phase. The first cut is made in the first and the second cut in the third year. Since these two cuts concern only the lower crown area, the so-called clearance profile of the tree, it is still necessary from the fourth year of standing to maintain the trees from a young tree nursery point of view in order to promote their development and function on site. Young tree care is a sustainable investment in the health and well-being of trees, both for the environment and for the people who benefit from the trees. Timely and professional young tree care lays the foundation for successful growth and a reduced need for corrective action in later stages of tree life. Overall, proper young tree care…

… helps to ensure that trees not only look good, but are also resistant to environmental stressors and can fulfill their ecological role in their environment. It is a sustainable practice that has a long-term positive impact, which has far-reaching implications for the future of trees. The planned pruning measure includes crown and trunk care on young trees, which are currently being released from three years of developmental care, as well as trees in the youth phase, which have a trunk diameter of up to 15-20 cm, depending on the tree species, measured at a height of 1 m. For individual, particularly fast-growing tree species, a maximum trunk diameter of 25 cm can be used if their site-specific function is not yet fully established. Trees of this contract are located in the public transport area in the Essen district I. In order to avoid damage to the tree and a better overview of the crown structure, the work must be carried out exclusively with an aerial work platform. The order situation covers the entire district I and is 614 trees. This is a one-off contract. The care of young trees serves to promote a vital and traffic-safe urban tree population. Tree damage, such as injury to bark tissue, root runs or soil compaction in the root plate, must always be avoided. In particular, several superimposed/adjoining wounds over 3 cm as well as cuts in the grobast area should be avoided. Exceptions to this rule shall be permitted only after a thorough examination of the requirement and only in the case of trees of appropriate size and foreclosure capacity. In the event of any ambiguity regarding the pruning of the trees during the implementation of the measures, the Contractor’s responsible nurse must contact the responsible site manager. Together, they should make the final decision on how to prune the tree in question. In these cases, the situation on site must be documented by photographs. Will after the crown cut the minimum crown height (40 % below the total height of the tree) is tree damage. Tree damage of any kind caused by the Contractor shall be assessed in accordance with the Koch method and invoiced accordingly to the Contractor together with expert fees. Further damage to urban property must be avoided and will be charged in the amount of the restoration costs. Damage caused by the contractor to paths, vegetation or other furnishings or equipment must be repaired by the contractor at his own expense. In order to protect biodiversity in the tree habitat, the requirements and prohibitions of the Federal Nature Conservation Act must be observed (see also "Fachbericht Artenschutz" of the FLL). The Contractor undertakes, immediately before the start of the care and cutting operation, to:
