For the Bundeswehr, a study is to be carried out to investigate how the physical state of the atmosphere can be recorded in the future. The data collected with the state recording feed into weather forecast models and are necessary for the operation of certain weapon systems. Currently, the data collection is carried out by atmospheric vertical sounding with radiosondes. This procedure must be examined for future viability and from a tactical point of view. Here, new procedures or technical developments are to be identified and evaluated on the basis of requirements and scenario considerations for basic operations as well as in the context of state and alliance defence. Particular focus is to be placed on the prevention of enlightenment by sight- or radio signal-identifying enlightenment by enemy forces.
