What the buyer is looking for

The Klein Schietveld is part of the Habitats Directive area ‘Klein en Groot Schietveld’, BE2100016, Restoring the natural hydrology of the Klein Schietveld, improving the quality of groundwater-dependent vegetation, restoring and improving the quality of the fens and riparian zones and creating connections between the existing populations are some of the priority efforts for the Habitats Directive area. This is examined in an ecohydrological study on the Klein Schietveld. The ecohydrological study consists of two plots, with a focus on: - Lot 1: system research into the Klein Schietveld and the restoration of groundwater management, without imposing a mortgage on the critical (military) infrastructure - Lot 2: to improve the hydrology and layout of the fens, taking into account the endangered species present, Lot 2 is part of the implementation of installation measures for the LIFE…

… project Life Heroes pogramma Marshes are among the most endangered ecosystems and the most important carbon stocks in the world. In addition to their unique biodiversity, they provide various ecosystem services, such as water supply, water purification, flood protection, carbon sequestration, climate regulation, production of raw materials and food, tourism and recreation. They also have an important aesthetic and cultural value. Within the framework of the European Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the new EU Nature Restoration Act, LIFE HEROES focuses on restoring and expanding nutrient-poor wetlands in Flanders. Eutrophication, acidification, dehydration, overgrowth and invasive alien species are the main threats to the decline of the unique fauna and flora (littles, butterflies, amphibians and plants) and the degradation of the main underground carbon reservoirs in Flanders. LIFE HEROES focuses on ecosystem restoration to address the current biodiversity and climate crisis and restore ecosystem services from nutrient-poor wetlands. The project provides a first-ever implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law by prioritising restoration efforts on wetlands and carbon-rich systems. The Life Heroes project focuses on Natura 2000 sites and targets EU habitats (3110, 3130, 3160, 7110, 7140, 7230,91E0) and addresses the main threats to wetlands (eutrophication, drought and invasive species). Within this framework, the specific objectives are the following: A. Restoration of oligotrophic systems at landscape level B. Restoration of habitats and restoration of species C. Involvement of stakeholders.
