The building envelope of buildings A and C will be thoroughly renovated (rehabilitation of facades, renovation or restoration of exterior facades and renovation of the roofing). … of an elevator and new staircase core. Where possible, they are insulated inside. Building C is additionally fully basemented. Building B will be demolished and replaced by a new building volume of one layer with a gradually stepped roof playground that makes the connection between building blocks A and C on the floors. The new building B will also be equipped with a new underground cellar. The courtyard, which will be enlarged by the demolition of building D, will be completely reconstructed. The formerly muted Sint-Pietersvliet behind rear building C will be reopened and made available to the public. The project aims at a sustainable heating of the Holy Spirit building through a combination of aquathermia (heat from surface water) and geothermal energy (BEO field). The application of aquathermia is part of a European Interreg grant project, in which the Holy Spirit Building acts as a pilot project for sustainable energy in a heritage context. For the aquathermia, an underground circuit is set up that draws water from the nearby Binnennete on the Mosdijk and transports it to the aquathermia heat pump in the technical basement of the Heilige Geesthuis. In order to realize the Binnennete circuit, a suction and discharge pipe will be provided in one controlled under drilling between the plot of the Holy Spirit site and the Binnennete via the plot Kerkstraat 3-5. At the Binnennete on the side of the Kerkstraat 3-5 plot, compact stainless steel heat exchangers will be fitted on a new steel structure. The geothermal installation (BEO field) is realized by means of vertical drilling at the height of the courtyard.
