What the buyer is looking for
As a specialized working environment, the Legal AI Workspace software to be procured must support the legal specialist work in the KfW ‑ Group with the help of generative artificial intelligence. The software is used in particular for legal research, analysis and preparation of legal content as well as for the (partially) automated creation, revision and structuring of documents and other legal work results. Users are the persons in the legal department as well as other departments and subsidiaries in the KfW ‑ Group. A Legal AI Workspace connects large language models with specialized processing layers optimized for working with legal content. It differs from general KI‑Assistants in that it brings together specialist legal processes in a uniform working environment and uses mechanisms that are indispensable for the professional application of the law. These include in particular: the…

… comprehensible anchoring of generated statements in verifiable sources, the structured processing of complex documents and the rule-based examination of contract content. The software must provide the following core functions. Legal research: The software must be able to answer complex legal questions based on relevant legal sources. Each generated statement must be traced back to specific, verifiable sources (in particular laws, case law, commentary literature) and made transparent to users. KfW considers integrated access to curated legal databases as a quality-enhancing feature. The software must also be able to work with documents provided by KfW and internal knowledge databases. Document analysis and contract evaluation: The software must be able to process and evaluate documents, including complex structured contracts, tabular content and scanned documents, without losing essential structural information. This includes the ability to systematically and fully compare contract content against predetermined audit standards. Text creation and design support: The software must support the creation and revision of legal texts, in particular draft contracts, notes and opinions. Proposals for amendments must be able to be traced directly in the document; a mere provision of generated text for manual adoption by users does not meet the requirements. The software complements a general KI‑ software already used at KfW. The new software will operate as a stand-alone tool and will use a model infrastructure provided by the contractor. The software is expected to achieve significant efficiency and quality improvements in day-to-day legal advice, document creation and ‑ review, as well as in recurring standard legal tasks. Without prejudice to the provision of the Software as a Service (SaaS) described in this document and the rights of use granted to it, the provision of the Software must be made in such a way that it at least satisfies the purpose of use. KfW is entitled to at least the rights of use that are necessary to fulfil the purpose of use. The Contractor shall therefore be liable for the following services: (a) provision of software with the functionality, (b) implementation of a project for the introduction of the software, (c) operation as SaaS, (d) provision of additional services as required, (e) termination support. Further details can be found in the "Description of Services" and in particular in the "Must and Can Criteria" annex to the Specifications.
