Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) is gestart om de huidige verkeersregelinstallaties (VRI’s) te vervangen voor intelligente verkeersregelinstallaties (iVRI’s). De reden hiervan is dat de iVRI de nieuwe standaard is en de iVRI landelijk specifieke doelgroepen faciliteert, zoals het prioriteren van nood- en hulpdiensten (waaronder weginspecteurs), logistiek en fietsers. De afgelopen jaren heeft RWS in een eerste tranche 19 VRI’s vervangen door of omgebouwd tot iVRI. De ervaringen met deze eerste iVRI’s is dat deze van toegevoegde waarde kan zijn bij het behalen van de beleidsdoelen gericht op het optimaliseren van de verkeersafwikkeling en het prioriteren van specifieke doelgroepen zoals hierboven beschreven. De opdracht betreft de levering, de implementatie en het beheer van C-ITS-applicaties (Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems) voor iVRI’s (intelligente verkeersregelinstallaties).
