1. Το Είδος Β΄ αποτελεί σημαντικό μέρος του σωστικού εξοπλισμού των πλωτών μέσων και κατ’ επέκταση των Λιμενικών Αρχών. Μεταξύ άλλων, χρησιμοποιούνται σε περιστατικά προσάραξης πλοίων οι οποίες αποτελούν συνήθεις περιπτώσεις ναυτικών ατυχημάτων με συνήθη κατάληξη και την πρόκληση θαλάσσιας ρύπανσης. 2. Το Είδος Α΄ θα καλύψει πάγιες και επιτακτικές ανάγκες, του σωστικού εξοπλισμού των πλοίων και πλωτών μέσων και κατ’ επέκταση των Λιμενικών Αρχών προκειμένου να μπορούν να επιχειρούν καθ’ όλη την διάρκεια της ημέρας και νύχτας, με σκοπό μεταξύ άλλων, την διάσωση της ανθρώπινης ζωής στην θάλασσα και την προστασία του θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος.
