What the buyer is looking for

The archaeological intervention is located in the commune of Les Abymes at the Belle Plaine site in Perrin, south-west of the Grande-Terre de Guadeloupe. The topography of the area corresponds to a vast plain of 10-20 metres of altitude punctuated by a few small isolated mornes. The plain of the Abymes is agricultural, with a dominant cane. SEMSAMAR’s project to build 225 dwellings led to a diagnosis. Pre-Columbian occupations are known in the area, including a Neo-Indian site near the current development project, which was the subject of a preventive archaeological excavation in 2013 (Patriarchal site No 97 105 0105). With regard to colonial times, the first settlements date back to the first quarter of the 18th century: the plan of survey drawn up by Amaudric de Sainte Maure in 1732 shows that, with the exception of the Grands-Fonds sector, most of the land is already granted to private individuals for the installation of agro-manufacturing farms (ref.: ANOM, DFC Guadeloupe, c. 26, f°69).
