Palveluntuottajarekisterissä hankinnan kohteena ovat vammaisille henkilöille tar-koitetut palvelut. Hankinnan kohteena perustuvat palvelut perustuvat vammais-palvelulakiin. Palveluja voidaan järjestää myös sosiaalihuoltolain (1301/2024) tai omaishoidon tuesta annetun lain (937/2005) perusteella. Osana palveluja voi olla terveydenhuoltolakiin (1326/2010) perustuvia terveydenhuollon palveluita. Hankinta toteutetaan joustavana sähköisenä palveluntuottajarekisterinä, (jatkossa palveluntuottajarekisteri), joka tarkoittaa Etelä-Karjalan hyvinvointialueen (jatkossa hankintayksikkö) suunnittelemaa hankintalain periaatteiden mukaista menettelyä hankinnan kohteena olevien palveluiden hankkimiseen. Hankintayksikkö toteuttaa palveluntuottajarekisterin luokissa sisäisiä kilpailutuksia tarpeensa mukaan. Perustamisvaiheessa avataan LUOKKA 1 Kotihoito vammaispalveluja ja omaishoidon palveluja saaville lapsille LUOKKA 2 Lyhytaikainen huolenpito vammaispalveluja ja omaishoidon palveluja saaville lapsille Hankintayksikkö voi myöhemmin korjausilmoituksella lisätä avattavia luokkia rekisterin kuvauksen mukaisesti.
