Das Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf (UKD) betreibt auf seinem Campus eine Automatische Wagen Transportanlage (AWT-Anlage). Während der AWT-Betriebszeiten werden mit speziellen Elektrohängebahn-Fahrzeugen (EHB-Fz), die vorhandenen Edelstahl-Rollcontainer in einem unterirdischen Kanal automatisch an über 130 Empfangsstellen befördert. Für den Transport der Rollcontainer sind insgesamt 79 EHB-Fz in der AWT-Anlage vorhanden. Ein Teil der Fahrzeugflotte ist bereits mit neuester Technik ausgestattet. Im Rahmen einer Retrofit-Maßnahme sollen weitere 9 EHB-Fahrzeuge modernisiert werden.
